Maximum marks
The total marks possible in the exam or across all subjects.
Percentage
(Marks obtained / Maximum marks) × 100.

The formula

Percentage from marks
Percentage = (Marks Obtained / Maximum Marks) × 100

Divide marks obtained by maximum marks and multiply by 100 to get the percentage. Reverse: Marks needed = (Target % / 100) × Maximum marks.

Worked example

450 marks obtained out of 600 total marks.
  1. Percentage = (450 / 600) × 100 = 75%.
You scored 75%.
