Overview

The CGPA calculator computes your Cumulative Grade Point Average from semester-wise grades or individual subject grades, and converts the result to a percentage using standard conversion formulas.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter each subject's grade points and credit hours.
  2. Add as many subjects as needed.
  3. The calculator shows your CGPA and the equivalent percentage using the CBSE/university formula.

Understanding the inputs & results

Grade Point (GP)
A numerical value assigned to a letter grade — e.g., O=10, A+=9, A=8 (10-point scale).
Credit hours
The weight assigned to each subject, reflecting its study hours per week.
CGPA
Cumulative Grade Point Average — the weighted average of grade points across all subjects.
Percentage equivalent
CGPA × 9.5 (CBSE formula) or CGPA × 10 − 7.5 (some universities) to convert to percentage marks.

The formula

CGPA formula
CGPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credits) / Σ(Credits) | % = CGPA × 9.5

Multiply each subject's grade point by its credits, sum all, then divide by total credits. Multiply by 9.5 for the CBSE percentage equivalent.

Worked example

Three subjects: Math (9 GP, 4 credits), Physics (8 GP, 4 credits), English (7 GP, 2 credits).
  1. Weighted sum = (9×4) + (8×4) + (7×2) = 36 + 32 + 14 = 82.
  2. Total credits = 4 + 4 + 2 = 10.
  3. CGPA = 82 / 10 = 8.2.
  4. Percentage = 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.9%.
CGPA = 8.2, equivalent to approximately 77.9%.
