Overview

The GPA calculator converts your letter grades into a GPA on a 4.0 scale (US) or 10-point scale (India) and computes the weighted average across all your courses for a semester or academic year.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select the grading scale (4.0 or 10-point).
  2. Enter each course name, letter grade, and credit hours.
  3. Add more courses as needed.
  4. The calculator shows your GPA for the semester.

Understanding the inputs & results

Letter grade
A letter (A+, A, B, C, D, F) representing performance in a course.
Grade point
Numerical equivalent of a letter grade. On a 4.0 scale: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.
Credit hours
The weight of each course. A 3-credit course contributes 3× a 1-credit course to GPA.
Weighted GPA
GPA calculated by weighting each course by its credit hours.

The formula

GPA (weighted)
GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credits) / Σ(Credits)

Same weighted average formula as CGPA but on a 4.0 or 10-point scale depending on your institution.

Worked example

Physics A (4 credits), Math B+ (3 credits), English C (2 credits) on 4.0 scale.
  1. A=4.0, B+=3.3, C=2.0.
  2. Sum = (4.0×4)+(3.3×3)+(2.0×2) = 16+9.9+4 = 29.9.
  3. Credits = 9. GPA = 29.9/9 ≈ 3.32.
Semester GPA = 3.32 on a 4.0 scale.
