Grade Calculator
Use the formula and worked example below to calculate manually.

Overview

The grade calculator computes your overall course grade from individual assignment, quiz, midterm, and final exam scores — each with their own weight — and shows what score you need on remaining assessments to reach your target grade.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter each assessment (assignment, quiz, exam) with its score and weight.
  2. Ensure weights total 100%.
  3. Optionally enter a target grade to see what you need on the remaining work.
  4. The calculator shows your current weighted grade and the letter grade equivalent.

Understanding the inputs & results

Weight
The percentage contribution of an assessment to the final grade. Weights must sum to 100%.
Weighted score
Score × Weight / 100 for each assessment.
Current grade
The sum of weighted scores for completed assessments.
Target grade
The minimum final grade you want to achieve.

The formula

Weighted grade
Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) / Σ(Weights of completed assessments)

If not all assessments are complete, the grade is normalised to completed weight. Needed score on remaining = (Target − current weighted sum) / remaining weight × 100.

Worked example

Assignments 30% (score 85), Midterm 30% (score 70), Final 40% (not yet done). Target: 80%.
  1. Completed weighted sum = 85×0.3 + 70×0.3 = 25.5 + 21 = 46.5.
  2. Needed from Final = (80 − 46.5) / 0.4 = 83.75.
Need 83.75% on the Final to achieve 80% overall.
